Seminal industrial electronic rock band Nine Inch Nails played their 1997 track ‘The Perfect Drug’ live for the first time ever, in Colorado at the Red Rocks Amphitheatre. The track appeared on the soundtrack for David Lynch’s 1997 film Lost Highway but has never been played in a live set by Nine Inch Nails before. Yesterday, a YouTube video surfaced showing the electronic-rock crossover veterans playing the track in front of a massive, excited crowd.
In a past interview Nine Inch Nails frontman Trent Reznor had expressed dissatisfaction with ‘The Perfect Drug’, stating that if someone asked him to play “the top hundred songs you’ve written, that probably wouldn’t be in the top hundred.”
This live performance of ‘The Perfect Drug’ is the second time that the group have played rare tracks on their current tour; over the past weekend, the band performed their 1992 ‘Broken’ EP in its entirety, which included the first live performance of ‘Happiness In Slavery’ in over two decades.
