Today, Tokyo Police Club have brought out a brand new album, ‘TPC’, via Dine Alone Records. Recorded in an old church in Ontario, this release has been much anticipated and will be the first album that the group has brought out in four years. With their return, Tokyo Police Club have brought a whole new energy with them, which is reflected in the exceptional ‘TPC’.
Tokyo Police Club‘s ‘TPC’ could be described as ‘the album that almost never was’, because the band were on the brink of a breakup just before it’s creation. Thankfully, vocalist and bassist David Monks managed to convince the rest of the band that their music was a fight worth fighting.
As Tokyo Police Club drummer Greg Alsop explains, “The feeling that we were so close to breaking up gave us the freedom to enjoy each other more, to enjoy making music together … If we’re not doing it for the sake of being a successful band, but just trying to make an album we’re happy with, it takes the pressure off. The expectation was just that we’d do something that would make us happy.”
The album marks a turning point for the band, as they showcase their talent and maturity with the world, while leaving all the politics of fame and showbiz behind them.
“I think there’s a lot more optimism and a lot less confusion now,” says Monks. “That’s why we called the record ‘TPC’. It was a whole process of looking at the band and deciding what it is. There’s an excitement and optimism. Let’s just let it exist.”
