Almost a year ago, due to the outbreak of the Covid-19, the UK government ordered clubs and music venues to shut their doors with immediate effect. This has been severely detrimental to an industry that contributes £66 billion per year to the country’s economy.

In an attempt to document the devastating impact and send a call out to the government, the Night Time Industries Association (NTIA) released an inquiry in February. The inquiry warns about the possible “extinction” of the UK night-time industry as it suggested that eighty-five percent of people in the industry are considering leaving while seventy-eight percent were furloughed in the last year. Thereafter, prime minister (PM) Boris Johnson announced that a “combination” of rapid testing and vaccines will be the way forward to opening clubs.

However, on the 22nd of February PM Boris Johnson announced a plan to phase out all restrictions in the country by the 21st of June. Following this announcement by the PM, a large number of music venues and festival organisers have revealed line-ups and events to take place at the end of June.

Famous London institution fabric announced through its Twitter page that it was going to host an epic 42 hour re-opening party in June. The iconic venue will open its doors at 22:00 on Friday 25th of June and close them at 10:00 the next morning. Only to re-open again at the same time as the previous night on the 26th of June and then ending at 4:00 in the morning on the 27th of June. Tickets are available for purchase here.

Let’s hope that the UK’s government four-step plan works out and that this positive announcement from the PM will help curb the “extinction” of the UK night time industry and hopefully aid in its survival.
