TikTok launches app to pay artists royalties for use of their music

Popular social media platform TikTok has launched a new music distribution tool called SoundOn. The tool will allow artists to upload their music to the app directly, earning royalties from the use of their tracks on the app.

It is reported that SoundOn will pay out 100% of royalties to artists in its first year, and 90% thereafter. SoundOn also offers a range of tools for artists to promote and distribute their music, and will provide distribution to major streaming platforms and social media apps that use music such as Spotify, Apple Music, Deezer, Instagram, and Pandora

Promotional tools include audience and market insight tools, as well as opportunities to work with influencers to promote an artist’s music through the app. When using SoundOn, the app will present an artist’s work to TikTok creators for use in their videos.

More information on SoundOn can be found here, via their website. Currently, the app is only available in the US, UK, Brazil, and Indonesia.
