‘Vivre Libre’ opens the album on a memorable note with warm and anthemic tones. One doesn’t know whether to dance first or absorb its liberating lyrical message. ANIQO shared her thoughts on the motivation behind making this the first track:  “‘Vivre Libre’ is the opening song on my upcoming album BIRTH, but at the same time and metaphorically it is also the end. The single sums up what BIRTH is about – the emergence from darkness, inner and outer struggles – it’s about resurrection in every sense of the word – the rising up, the goal in sight.”

Following on from this upbeat energy, the mood takes a darker acoustic direction with ‘Deep Sea Fish’ which speaks on feeling lost and reaching for light despite the lingering feeling of impending doom. A thought-provoking and heart wrenching track, I would recommend this track to be listened to when you are alone to reflect.

‘Fear’ is a song about confronting your fears and your worst attributes. In a society where everyone wants to point fingers at others, this psychedelic track talks about taking accountability and being true to yourself. In ANIQO’s own words:  “…I structured the song like a priestly chant – the first part takes over the helping hand that tries to relativize fears which arise mainly in ourselves. It’s an encouragement to not to be irritated by our own little devil or shadow sides that nibbles at our self-confidence and often keeps us from going down new paths. The second part draws attention to the fear that is brought to us by the outside – and which can be significantly responsible for the climate of society. Instrumentally, the song symbolizes running away due to fears – but conversely also the liberation from them.”

Album title track Birth takes the electrifying rocker energy and production stylings of the singer as it collides with the existential dread lyrically. Although the subject matter may be intense at times, there is much to admire and learn from ANIQO’s art.
