When two creative forces of the likes of Blawan and Pariah collide, it’s best to expect the unexpected. Still, probably no one could have guessed that this particular collaboration between two of the world’s most foremost voices in techno would result in, well, not techno. Particularly since they’ve garnered a reputation for playing some of the most banging techno sets imaginable under the alias, KARENN. When the duo announced that they had ‘started a band’ called Persher, they weren’t exactly joking. Man With The Magic Soap is caustic, hard edged noise punk; a pivot away from Blawan and Pariah’s respective techno abstractions toward the sphere of hard rock.

Man With The Magic Soap sees Blawan and Pariah retool their electronic music skills, looking to recreate the visceral carnage of a live punk rock band using their usual studio tools. They use these tools and skills to create sounds akin to live, distorted electric guitars and to craft waves of looped feedback that produces an ever present sense of menace and dread. Blawan lends his vocals in screeching grindcore style, while live drums rage in the distance.
There’s always been an inherent punk rock edge to the two. Blawan’s most obnoxious and acerbic outings like Why They Hide their bodies under my garage? Is anarchy in the scope of dance music, while KARENN at its centre is totally hardcore. With Persher, the two allow these instincts to take over and deliver something truly surprising. See you in the mosh pit!
