Marcel Dettmann – Water
The Berlin techno icon’s latest single is the first from his upcoming album on Dekmantel, Fear Of Programming, his first LP in nearly a decade. Full of cascading arpeggios and wobbling bass, Water trickles along its minimal techno pulse gently, while Ryan Elliott provides rudimentary rhymes in epic sounding vocals that’s a touch ridiculous, and a touch sexy.
WhoMadeWho & Rampa, Shimza – Everyday (Shimza Remix)
South African stalwart Shimza adds his afrotech magic to WhoMadeWho and Rampa’s dazzling Everyday. Shimza adds a driving piano riff and earthy percussion to the anthemic melody, shifting it to peak time while retaining the song’s deep, emotional tonality.
Sébastien Léger – In A Distorted Galaxy
French progressive house maestro Sébastien Léger’s latest is a spacey, synth driven dream. Full of lush textures undulating and washing over each other atop driving rhythms, the peaks and valleys of In A Distorted Galaxy make it bang as much as it floats.
Have You Ever (ft. Cae Monaé) – Ariel Zetina
Any track that opens with the line “hello, daddy?” is a winner in our books. Taken from Chicago DJ Ariel Zetina’s debut album Cyclorama, Have You Ever is as queer as techno gets. Full of backspins, layers of vocal loops, brass jazz flourishes, and the simple yet loaded question, “have you ever been with a girl like me before?” Have You Ever is unhinged queer anxiety turned into euphoria.
