Set the tone for us. Why music?

If everything goes to plan, music is a win-win win situation. I am happy making it, people are happy listening to it. It doesn’t harm anyone (in some cases it even makes the world a better place). So it seemed like a pretty good life choice.

Which comes first when you’re producing – the sound or the idea?

Always the idea, because if you start with the sound, the song becomes just that rather than a meaningful piece of music.

What is your favourite track that you have ever made, and why?

The Calling with Tchami because it gets the emotions just right. I also really enjoyed making The Freaks with David Guetta because, well, David Guetta.

Take us through a day in the recording studio.

I am German, so I got this thing for efficiency. That means I usually get up at around 6 AM by the latest. No phone, no internet, no interaction with the outside world, just me, my music, and my coffee. I do that until noon, then I switch everything else on and finish up the day.

Tell us about your experience of performing live. Do you enjoy it?

I love making people happy, so performing life is great for me. I also really enjoy the contrast of making something all alone by yourself in a little room and then playing it to thousands of people and seeing what it does to the crowd.

Was there a specific moment in your life where you thought, “this is what I want to do”?

Yes, nobody has ever asked me this before. I actually think about that moment quite a lot! It goes like this: I’m 15 years old. I’m in my parents basement, and I have just learned to mix two records together… I know it’s quite cheesy to say that, but I thought to myself I want to become the best producer in the world now!

Any emerging artists on your radar?

There are so many that I love for so many different reasons. Roosterjaxx just made a killer remix of The Calling. Then there is my brother Brandon, he’s not necessarily emerging, but I feel like he should be on the radar of so many more people! In fact, I feel like there are so many German house acts that everybody should check out: keno, mbp, Ole sturm, empra.

Breakdown the news for us: what can we expect from you this year?

This year is going to be all about experimenting, trying new things and also playing the biggest and best stages at the biggest and best festivals I have ever done.

Famous last words?

I love you all!
