For Brooklyn duo Thomas Mullarney III and Jacob Gossett, AKA Beacon, dance music goes deeper than the somatic – it’s also an invitation to explore the labyrinthine potential of the cerebral. “We’ve always been drawn to abstract brush strokes in dance music,” they say, speaking toward how each mix of music is approached as if composing an artwork. “We used this mix for PLAYY. to reference some leftfield influences that were filtering into our writing: microtonality (Meshwork by Brendan Rincon), EBM, and drone.” The journey they take us on reflects these influences, shifting through “passages of tighter mixing, moments of pause and also some vinyl-only selects from our collection. Look out for music from our latest album, Along the Lethe, as well as brand new remixes we just dropped including Kölsch’s take on Pay My Debts and Midori Hirano’s remix of Ostrich feat. Colin Stetson.”
