Canadian DJ duo Blond:ish co-organise event for this month to promote ‘sustainable raving’ and clean beaches

Written by Maya-Rose Torrão

They say that plastic is estimated to outweigh fish in the oceans by 2050, a shocking and devastating thing to think about, but Canadian tech house DJs Anstascia D’Elene Corniere and Vivie-ann Bakos, who go by Blond:ish, are not going to stand idly by and let this happen.

Blond:ish, who have been making house and techno with psychedelic influences for a decade now, have teamed up with International Music Summit, Casita Verde, Ibiza Preservation Foundation and Woomoon, as well as with island locals, activists and numerous other friends and DJs for an epic beach clean up at Playa d’en Bossa, in Ibiza, on August 21. The pair will also play the Ibiza Preservation Foundation’s 10th anniversary on August 22, where all proceeds will go towards their constant conservation efforts.

It’s not just the cold hard facts about the decline of the earth’s environment that is encouraging Blond:ish to speak out and create change, but also the duo’s own experiences of just how wasteful and careless humans can be.

The two DJ’s explained, “We were playing in the main room at Warung Brazil at sunrise, in this beautiful moment, but when at 8am everybody left, they left behind them this mountain of plastic bottles. This vision devastated us. A beautiful sunrise in front of thousands of discarded water bottles.

Chasing the sun and playing parties in paradise is next level amazing, but we all collectively unconsciously forgot about one important thing in our consumerism-driven society when moving from the city to the sensitive ecosystems of paradise… Single use plastics in our scene are not sustainable anywhere, they are killing the creatures in our oceans and disrupting our planet beyond comprehension. We want to change that and NOW.”

Watch Blond:ish perform a live set at DJ Mag HQ in Ibiza, right next to the beach where the big clean up will take place next week, below.
