Grammy-winning DJ David Morales arrested for suspected MDMA smuggling

56-year-old Grammy-winning American DJ David Morales was detained yesterday at Fukuoka airport after the authorities discovered a white powder in his luggage.

It is well-known that Japan practises a zero-tolerance approach when it comes to drug-related crimes. 0.3 grams of MDMA were found in Morales’ carry-on luggage and he was subsequently stopped at customs. So far, Morales has denied all allegations, telling authorities that the substance was not his and he thinks that somebody “had likely slipped it into his belongings,” Japanese police report. “He was arrested for allegedly violating the law on narcotics and psychotropics control,” a police spokesman told a Japanese publication.

Morales travelled to Japan to play at two different events; on October 6 in Fukuoka and October 7 in Tokyo. On Saturday evening, the promoter of the Fukuoka show posted on social media, announcing that Morales was “sick” and he would not be able to attend the event.
