Art-pop songstress, artist and producer Grimes has grown exponentially as an icon in the music world over the past few years, her unique aesthetic and alluring, experimental genre-defiance standing out as one of the most prominent forces in contemporary electronic music. Appearing with her first album Geidi Prime, and soon following with Halfaxa in 2010; Grimes garnered more attention with the release of her critically acclaimed LP Visions in 2011. In 2015, her album Art Angels brought her directly into the mainstream spotlight and since then Grimes has continued to grow as one of the decades most prominent electronic artists. While active in releasing singles and splits throughout the years, after a five year gap between LPs, Grimes is set to release her 5th album Miss Anthropocene next year – with the hype growing for fans with the release of two new singles scheduled for the tracklist; the first entitled ‘Violence’ in collaboration with i_o – and now following, her brand new single ‘So Heavy I Fell Through The Earth‘.

With the theme of dark sci-fi apocalypse dominating the talk around Miss Anthropocene – ‘So Heavy I Fell Through The Earth‘, especially with it’s catastrophic visualiser proves cohesive to the core of Grimes conceptual approach.

Synths simmer an ominous foreboding in the track’s introduction, a dark ambient segue into a smoldering, submerged bassline and focused beat. Grimes’ vocals swell as tender phantoms, reverberating a sinister yet angelic tone in her signature dynamic vocal range – emotive and tender, yet still powerful; weaving within transcendent guitar melodies dotted with a reflective melancholia. A textural layered soundscape gleams with personality, a vivid aura surrounding the concise production flowing from the track; demonstrating Grimes’ growth as a producer and writer with its impeccable quality.

Miss Anthropocene is set to release on February 21st, 2020 via 4AD – with recently released details of the album revealed such as the ‘subject to change’ tracklist below:
