Honey Dijon has received a Lifetime Achievement Award for her pioneering work as a DJ in the LGBTQIA+ community. The Queer Visionary Award, specially designed by artist Jonathan Lyndon Chase, was awarded to Dijon in New York City last week at the Leslie-Lohman Museum of Art Gala.
In a press statement, the Leslie-Lohman Museum of Art said that Dijon embodies “Leslie-Lohman’s guiding values of queer liberation and magic.” The museum, founded by J. Frederic Lohman and Charles W. Leslie, celebrates LGBTQIA+ creative excellence by collecting over 30,000 artefacts from artists within the queer community.
Speaking of the honour, Dijon wrote in a caption on Instagram, “I am filled with so much love and joy today. Thank you from the bottom of my heart for this honour and to be surrounded by so many friends, pioneers, and legends of New York that came out to support was truly deeply emotional and humbling for me. I felt like the most beautiful and powerful woman on earth.”
