When SHERELLE and I. JORDAN met in the green room of Homobloc 2021, little did they know that their shared sentiment of being outsiders in electronic music would lead to the creation of their joint EP. The duo’s Reflections tour, which saw them play back-to-back in a number of queer and trans-inclusive spaces, is a reflection of their desire to find spaces that reflected their own identities. It’s ironic then that their new split single comes from fabric Originals, the new label from fabric London, an institution that has been accused of being too commercial and homogeneous. The EP cover resembles some sort of organism mid-symbiosis, a metaphor that perfectly encapsulates the natural bond and working relationship between the two artists. Their individuality and overlap is captured on the EP, with SHERELLE’s GETOUTOFMYHEAD and I. JORDAN’s M1/M3 showcasing their distinct styles while complementing each other perfectly.
GETOUTOFMYHEAD is a high-energy track that combines SHERELLE’s internal chaos with vibrant flourishes. Thundering kicks and hissing cymbals steer the introduction, only for luminous synth pads and echoing yelps to emerge, guiding the listener towards transcendence. The juxtaposition of combative piano stabs and ethereal grow is a testament to the artists’ ability to create a track that is both confrontational and dreamlike.
I. JORDAN’s M1, M3 is a salute to Manchester, a city that has been a hotbed for electronic music. From the word go, there’s a ton of pressurised energy in the track’s siren-like melody, which approaches supernova levels at multiple points. The opening and closing of the filter feels like motorway traffic breezing by on a late-night drive. Both artists are on their A-games here, and the release represents the dawn of one of the UK club scene’s most exciting link-ups.

What’s truly remarkable about this EP is how SHERELLE and I. JORDAN use their queerness as a means to incite dialogue. Their collaboration is a reminder that electronic music is at its best when it embraces diversity and provides a platform for marginalised voices. The release is a testament to the power of collaboration and a reminder of the transformative power of music.
