‘Everspin’ is the latest single from UK born singer-songwriter Leanne Tennant, released on February 20th via LT Records. Premiered on KCRW, the single was recorded and produced by Yanto Browning (Amy Shark, The Belligerents) at Airlock Studios in Brisbane with the help of Mark Anthony Maher, aka Kram, from iconic Australian Rock act Spiderbait. In 2018, Leanne was awarded the prestigious Carol Lloyd Award which enabled her to re-enter the studio and record a new body of work. ‘Cherry Cola’, the first single from her new album which premiered and gained high rotation on Double J Radio, took Leanne to the semi-finals of the International Songwriting Competition in 2019 and she has received two Queensland Music Awards in the ‘Blues & Roots’ category, in 2017 for ‘Gentle Annie’ and in 2015 for ‘Bearing The Crown’, and was nominated for a third QMA in 2019. ‘Bring It All Back’ has been nominated for two QMAs in 2020.
Exhausted at the end of a tour, Leanne Tennant walked into Sydney’s Chinatown Mall and sat with her headphones on: “I felt very still, deflated and happy at the same time, watching the busy world spin by.’’ She began writing lyrics to capture her complicated emotions and that gave life to ‘Everspin’, the third extraordinary single previewing her forthcoming album. Recorded live in one day, ‘Everspin’ serves as a testament to Leanne’s uninhibited songwriting and natural ability as a performer.
The singer elaborates further on the release, “Everspin is about being stuck in a blur of activity yet you still appear to be standing still,” says Leanne, “It’s about putting in all your efforts to be seen and heard yet those efforts continue to go unnoticed. Stuck in the noise. It was inspired by how I was feeling at the time about the music industry and how difficult it is to earn a living as an artist.”
