New York club director and nightlife legend Steve Adelman is releasing a memoir. Titled Nocturnal Admissions, the memoir covers Adelman’s time at iconic venues such as Limelight, Tunnel, and Avalon in the late nineties and early 00’s.
Adelman rose to prominence in the late 80’s as the director of Roxy, one of New York’s biggest nightclubs, a job he got on a recommendation from Rupaul. In the years following, Adelman would become one of the city’s most notorious nightlife figures. At Limelight, he would help cultivate the club kid scene started by Michael Alig’s Disco2000 parties while his work at Avalon is largely credited as a formative part of what would become EDM. Adelman’s work would also see him promote DJ’s such as Richie Hawtin and Joey Beltram during the 90’s techno boom, while also providing spaces for new sounds such as the then burgeoning ‘hacienda’ reggaeton scene.
Nocturnal Admissions will include stories from the prime of his time on the nightlife scene of the late nineties and early 00’s, and reportedly mentions a number of high profile names such as Rudy Giuliani, Jack Nicholson, Snoop Dog, Leonardo DiCaprio, and Sir Richard Branson.
