If you close your eyes while listening to Andrew Tuttle, chances are you’re about to be transported somewhere unexpected. The Australian producer and banjo player has carved out a distinct niche for himself, intersecting the conventions and motifs of country and folk Americana with immersive ambient electronica. In straddling these two worlds, he’s made his own sonic universe of acoustic plucks and decaying reverb.

Next Week, Pending appears on his latest album Fleeting Adventure, a body of work that explores the notions of journey inherent to Tuttle’s music. Opening with soft focus ambient strings and subtle, rhythmic stirrings, Tuttle’s banjo pierces through a dreamscape diorama to begin a careful and steady forward motion across the song’s near eight minutes. Perhaps startling at first, the sound of Tuttle’s playing ripples effortlessly into the electronica around it. Luke Schneider’s pedal steel guitar strings slide and undulate together, wrapping themselves around Tuttle’s strings like aquatic ribbons.
