One of the most beguiling skills Atlanta’s Nikki Nair possesses as a producer is his unmatched dexterity. He has the ability to (quite like no one else) flow through passages of various styles and signatures in the span of one four minute track and make it feel seamless. Nair is quite possibly one of the most exciting voices to emerge in club music in recent times, with work like last year’s More Is Different finding connections between the motifs and sounds of dubstep and drill’n’bass to create music that’s constantly in a state of transmutation.
His latest single step 2, released on the artist’s own n goes to infinity, plays with the form of two-step, a mutant breaks and bass formulation that opens with acidic and squiggly footwork before breaking down into head rattling halftime. From here step 2 only grows in audacity, storming through manic two-step and distorted rave as Nair continuously pushes it dangerously close to the edge.

Like More Is Different, step 2 never settles, choosing a spiralling and often chaotic pathway that throws you on a rollercoaster through Nair’s wild proclivities. It’s exciting, exhilarating, and entirely alien in its originality.
