Indie pop artist Ormiston has employed the talents of well-known creators Fred Falke, Das Mörtal, and French Fox (a.k.a. Julien Manaud) to flip a few of the tracks from his previously released album, titled Hammer Down. Together, these remixes make up an EP by the same name, adding a variety of new genres and styles to the original source material. As an artist who dabbles in multiple genres, it comes as no surprise that Ormiston put together this flavoursome project.
Stream / Download: Hammer Down (EP Remix)
With oscillating basslines that remind us of roller rinks and bell bottom jeans, the title track, remixed by Fred Falke, carries a definite disco feel. Each downbeat flashes with groovy luminescence, with snares to match.
Das Mörtal remixed ‘Better Days’, a riptide of Synthwave nostalgia that stays true to the genre and the era it was inspired by. Ormiston’s vocals sound as if they could be the soundtrack to a golden oldie, perhaps The Breakfast Club or Back to the Future. The film-like quality of this track adds a retro gloss to the cover of this EP, a finishing touch that ties it all together.
