New York native Verasect presents the spirited remix of ‘Catch Your Breath’ by legendary British producer Dobie, premiering today on The Playground. Dobie’s remix of ‘Catch Your Breath’ is a dynamic reinterpretation opening with impactful organic drums and moody, heart-rending piano chords. The ethereal vocals drift through the rich soundscape soundscape before the track slowly descends into controlled, textured chaos as it draws to a close. It sounds like a live jam from a Portishead Dummy studio session.
“I was so happy with the result that it inspired me to seek out more remixers and release this upcoming EP.” says Verasect.
This track will appear on Verasect’s forthcoming Awakenings Remixes EP alongside remixes from artists including Kareful, Blood Wolf and the late Øfdream.
The two artists met at a skateboarding photography exhibition in London where Dobie, also a talented photographer, had work showing. A mutual friend introduced the two musicians who then met up and began experimenting in Verasect’s Shoreditch studio.
“One day I played him my then-unreleased EP Sleep Stories. He immediately gravitated towards ‘Catch Your Breath’ as it has a moody trip-hop vibe and wanted to remix it. Dobie disappeared for a week and came back with a spectacular finished track.”
Dobie is a prolific artist in his own right, contributing a remix of ‘I Miss You’ to Bjork’s Telegram remix album. He has been releasing music since the ‘80’s on imprints such as Vinyl Solution, Pussy Foot Records and Ninja Tune’s Big Dada and has worked alongside the likes of Massive Attack, Tricky, Gang Starr, London Posse, DJ Premier, Les Negress Vertes, Wooky and Wiley and Roots Manuva.
Verasect’s Awakenings Remixes EP is out on September 6th via Terminal Blue Records; you can listen to Catch Your Breath (Dobie Remix) below, before its release tomorrow, August 23rd.
