One-man orchestra Reinhardt Buhr is a musician of the moment. What do I mean? Choosing to improvise rather than rely on a prearranged live set, the South African multi-instrumentalist layers his voice with guitar, electric, cello, hangpan drum, and even didgeridoo to create full-bodied, realistic, and evocative compositions out of thin air and in real time. A wizard with midi controllers, Buhr records his samples live, composing pristine arrangements right in front of our eyes.
In a captivating progression of melody and rhythm, his performances are a wonder to behold. Fans can expect to watch him work his magic live at THE PLAYGROUND’s forthcoming 3-day event TIMELESS Festival. But first, let’s get to know Reinhardt Buhr.

Set the tone for us. Why the arts?
Music inspires me, and it’s a beautiful and powerful way to express things that are otherwise hard to express. As the saying goes, do what you love and you’ll never work a day in your life.
Which comes first when you’re producing – the sound or the idea?
I am mostly inspired by sound, which then develops into ideas.
What’s on your current playlist?
Tony Anderson, Teho, Ben Böhmer, Jeremy Riddle, Bound to Divide, Monolink, Josh Garrels.
Tell us about the chemistry you have with your fans on stage.
I often get feedback from people who say that my music brings them healing. When I perform there is an exchange between me and those watching. When the music really comes from within, those watching have a better experience. This in turn energises and motivates me.
How are you prepping for your set at TIMELESS fest?
I am currently working on new songs and putting more focus on the music, as I have spent the last few months fine-tuning the technical side of my new Ableton-based setup.
Which of your songs should festival-goers put on their ‘TIMELESS’ playlist?
‘In The Moment’, ‘Eternal’ and ‘Paradeisos’.
With so many exciting acts performing at TIMELESS festival, who are you most excited to see?
Eelke Kleijn.
Imagine you’re a festival goer. Do you rough it in a tent or glamp in luxury?
Definitely glamp!
What one thing MUST you absolutely have with you on stage?
An instrument.
Break down the news for us: what can we expect from you this year?
A new album or two, a European tour, and lots of videos.
Famous last words?
Be kind, be dedicated, and don’t sweat the small stuff.
