Find out what else Jacob Dilssner, aka Wankelmut, has planned for the future in the exclusive interview below.

Hi Jacob, thanks for sitting down with us. What are you up to today?

Hi there! Thank you for having me. I’m actually in the process of updating my studio setup right now. Selling old gear, buying new synths and improving acoustics – it’s nice to get everything in order at the end of the year.

Tell us about the concept behind your recently released single, ‘Good In Goodbye’

The goal was to create a powerful dance record that has a deeper and darker meaning in the lyrics. Something that gets you groovin’ but at the same time resonates with your soul.

How did you come to collaborate with Felix Samuel and Xoro on this quickly rising single?

It started out last summer when Adam Griffin – A&R at Perfect Havoc – connected me with their artist, Xoro. He had just written an amazing song with Felix Samuel and asked me if I wanted to get down and produce it. And of course, I said yes!

Who’s next on your radar to work with?

I have tons of exciting stuff coming up. I’m working with female newcomers from Germany NOØN, producing a film soundtrack, writing songs for labels like Spinnin’, Toolroom, Universal and many more. 2022 is gonna be dope!

Your remix of Asaf Avidan’s ‘One Day / Reckoning Song’ sold millions of copies worldwide, with dozens of other remixes following. Have you got another remix underway?

I’m constantly working on new remixes but right now I’m focussing on my own productions. But I’m sure there will be more remixes to come in 2022. I love to give other peoples’ creations a fresh spin.

You launched your own imprint, WKLMT in early 2020. What have been some of the more challenging aspects of this?

The most challenging aspect was to come to terms with the fact that while a pandemic is going on, releasing deep club-focussed tunes on a fresh label is not the best idea. I really hope to release more on WKLMT in 2022 and to finally give those tunes proper support in the clubs.

Tell us about the music scene in Germany – what are your favourite aspects of it and what do you believe can be improved upon?

The house and techno scene in Germany is very active. I like how there’s always new labels and artists coming up and that the scene is becoming more underground again. But like almost everywhere in dance music, the scene lacks diversity. That’s why I support female acts whenever I can.

Looking toward the future, what else can we expect from you?

I will stay busy in the studio and put out bangers for dance floors and playlists for sure. I’m also working on a new artist project so stay tuned for that. I’m also really looking forward to properly touring again after this damned pandemic is over!

One last thought to leave your fans with?

Stay strong, we will dance together again!
