Madonna, Felix Da Housecat – American Life (Felix Da Housecat’s Devin Dazzle Edit)
While this track has been floating around for years, it’s never received an official release until now. Taking a spot on the track list of Madonna’s newly released Finally Enough Love remix Felix Da Housecat’s take on the title track of the Queen of Pop’s most divisive album adds some of peak electroclash’s louche glamour to Madonna’s otherwise questionable rapping.
Röyksopp -Oh, Lover
After the tentative response to part one of their ongoing Profound Mysteries series, there’s something oddly familiar about Röyksopp’s first single from Profound Mysteries Part II. but sort of in a comforting, nostalgic way. Featuring Susanne Sundfør, Oh, Lover is pitch perfect europop melancholy. There’s plenty of gated reverb, a chugging synthpop riff folded into the drums, and slight hints of French touch in its funk adjacent bass guitar.
Nikki Nair – It’s NP-Complicated
Renormalization Support Group, the new EP from enfant terrible of bass and breaks Nikki Nair , is imminent. It’s NP-Complicated is the second single taken from the forthcoming project, and is pretty much everything you’d expect from a Nikki Nair banger. Opening with squelching acid synths and a ping-ponging arpeggio, It’s NP-Complicated surges along a two-step beat and twisted vocal to increasingly manic heights.
Kai Whiston – T.J.F
Sonic sculptor and visual artist Kai Whiston’s latest single goes back to his gaming roots. Based in part on a graphic novel set in a dystopian 90’s rave alternative universe that Whiston created with his mother, T.J.F takes shape as alt-dimension drum’n’bass. Though brief, it’s full of texture and tension, a charged and propulsive nosedive into a world born from the beautiful chaos of Whiston’s imagination.
Melle Brown, DJ Koze ft. Annie Mac – Feel About You (DJ Koze Remix)
UK DJ and producer Melle Brown taps DJ Koze to remix her June single, Feel About You featuring BBC Radio host Annie Mac. Adding his flavour without overcooking the already stunning disco-house anthem, DJ Koze lifts the original’s simmering house energy and keys on its earworm piano hook. The disco soul of the original remains, but Koze strips back some of its layers to reshape it as a dancefloor filler full of clarity.
