100 Gecs – Torture Me
While the world still waits for the hyperpop duo’s hotly anticipated sophomore album, 100 Gecs surprise dropped a new EP, Snake Eyes. Torture Me, in collaboration with Skrillex, throws things back to the mid-2000’s with its bouncy future bass beat and dubstep leaning breakdown.
Safety Trance, Virgen Maria – Ratatata
Since working with Arca, Cardopusher’s avant-reggaeton moniker Safety Trance has felt like a revelation for both the artist and us as listeners. On Ratatata, he enlists the deviant Virgen Maria who adds her breathless moaning to an epic industrial mutant reggaeton banger.
Caroline Polachek – Welcome To My Island
Reuniting with the writers behind So Hot You’re Hurting My Feelings, on the latest single from her recently announced new album, Polachek once again pulls off a stylistic 360. This time, she finds herself in familiar territory with breezy, tropical inspired 80’s synthpop, flecked with shimmering synths and snappy percussion, laden with Polachek’s infectiously bizarre hooks.
Petite Noir – Simple Things
The latest from alt-blues singer Petite Noir is a buzzy New Wave cut with lashings of acid jazz. Against a dubby beat, synthesisers swirl and skew, while drones hum and an acerbic trumpet from jazz artist Theo Croker rounds out the scenery. Noir’s vocals are delivered through layers of smokey reverb, making Simple Things deliciously stylish.
