The latest single from Canadian producer Jessy Lanza is her first since relocating to LA, and it’s impossible not to feel the breezy cool of her new home all across the track. A sun drenched house banger, Don’t Leave Me Now weaves Lanza’s fizzy vocals through a lush soundscape of deep bass, gated reverb claps, and psychedelic acid synths. This is Lanza at her best.
Jayda G – Blue Lights
The second single from her upcoming album Guy, Blue Lights is a submerged, sensual Chicago house power ballad that finds its beauty in the low-lights. Murky, shadowy percussion is met with sunken bass and an undulating synth modulation, making for a languid and gorgeously slinky listen.
Everything But The Girl, Four Tet – Nothing Left To Lose (Four Tet Remix)
Four Tet lends his crisp and precise house percussion and levity for abstraction to Everything But The Girl’s latest single, throwing shimmering kicks behind the original’s oscillating sub-bass while he’s at it. The remix honours the deep melancholy of the original, while sharpening the beats per minute to translate Nothing Left To Lose into something clubbier, though at times it feels like Four Tet has simply thrown a spare (and familiar) beat track on top.
Leon Vynehall – Rosebud
Leon Vynehall unleashes a monster on his latest. Rosebud takes classic piano driven house and splices it with techno sensibilities and UKG vocal samples, making for a beguiling listen full of peaks and valleys that is truly thrilling. Led by sticky, abysmal bass and single chord piano stabs, it’s in its unexpected middle eight that Rosebud really goes for the jugular.
