The first single off Cakes Da Killa’s upcoming sophomore album sees the rapper continue to blend hip-hop and house with a distinct ballroom edge. There’s an inherent stylishness to Svengali, with its rapturous microbeats and humid atmosphere, making for a thrilling creative evolution.
Sudan Archives – OMG BRITT
Vocalist, violinist, and rapper Sudan Archives’s latest single is straight up fierce. Against a bass heavy and sticky trap beat, Archives alternates between spitting bars and contorting her voice into breathy jeers and moans, folding herself into the beat as it grows in intensity. It’s really hot, and a touch anxiety inducing. Slay!
Brooke Candy – Flip Phone
Queen of scuzzy left-field rap Brooke Candy returns with Flip Phone, a buzzing and propulsive cut that pulls from bubblegum bass and hi-NRG. It features a killer beat and one of her most instantly memorable choruses in recent memory, even if the helium pitched hyperpop bridge feels a bit passe.
Mau P – Drugs From Amsterdam
If you’ve ever had a good night out in Amsterdam, this one’s for you. A dizzying progressive house / bass hybrid, Mau P builds moments of tension expertly before dropping you off in some truly unexpected places, making the experience of this track earn its namesake. It’s sticky, a bit acidic, totally vibey, and absolutely filthy.
