Spotify has launched a new feature within its app called DJ which aims to provide a personalised experience for users by using AI-powered technology.
The feature will offer a curated line-up of music and commentary around the tracks chosen for each specific user. It also comes with a “stunningly realistic voice” which accompanies the music. The more users listen and tell the DJ what they like or dislike, the better its recommendations become. DJ will be initially available to Spotify Premium users in the US and Canada.
Xavier ‘X’ Jernigan, Head of Cultural Partnerships at Spotify, created the voice model for the feature. According to Spotify, DJ combines its existing personalisation technology with generative AI, with expertise from the platform’s music editors and experts.
