Spotify launches new section for streaming DJ mixes

Following in the wake of Apple Music’s recent investment in DJ mixes and technology that supports copyright issues for DJs, Spotify has launched a section for streaming mixes. The section went live last week and features new content from Adam Beyer, Amyelle and Noisia as well as Spotify’s existing catalogue of mixes.

The DJ Mixes section is currently still in its testing phase, which means that it is currently only available in a limited number of territories. These include U.K., Ireland, the Netherlands, Japan, Indonesia, the Philippines, Australia, and New Zealand. Spotify says that they plan on expanding this list in the near future.

The announcement opens the potential for increased revenue from streaming for artists, coming at a time when the streaming industry has been placed under increased scrutiny regarding royalties and payouts. Just last month the U.K Government ordered an official investigation into the streaming industry and major labels including Universal Music and Sony following a report on the streaming industry’s power in the music business.
