It’s official. Rock band The Burma have released their brand new album Sucker For Stars. Let’s unlatch the bonnet and see what makes this baby roar. Starting strong, the record ‘Out In The Heat’ is a scorcher. Like being caught in a seductress’s snare, we are drawn to the band’s elusive songwriting. From the get-go, they shred, laying down riff upon riff of high-temperature chords and shameless lyrics to match.

The title track, ‘Sucker For Stars’, has a small gig charm. Singing with the delay set to slow, Tony O’Donovan’s voice occupies a space in the mix that makes the track sound like it was recorded in a bar. This is a good thing. For the duration of the track, we felt as if we were standing in a smoky den, close enough to the band to catch a chance plectrum or flying drumstick.
Themes of love saturate the LP, but ‘Golden Girl’ really commits. A swooning ballad, the song is full of vulnerable moments and romantic imagery, showing us the band’s lovable side. Overall, it serves as a calming resolution to an otherwise raucous project.
Upcoming Tour dates:
15th October – Whelans, Dublin
20th October – Spirit Store, Dundalk
21st October – Seachurch, Ballycotton, Cork
04 November – Dolans
