The Playground is pleased to announce headliners SHIGETO & SLOW MAGIC both off their European tours for one night only at Electrowerkz in Angel, Islington. Support will come from some of London and Brightons rising stars including SHINAMO MOKI, BEWILDERBEAST and on Thursday 17th July.
► SHIGETO- Headlining the event is a man who needs no introduction. Originally from Michigan, USA, Shigeto stands as one of Ghostly International’s leading artists. Growing up on Motown and Jazz gave him a deep-seated appreciation for downtempo rhythm and melody and this shines through in his production. His style incorporates the most infectious aspects of hip hop and live instrumentation creating his own unique outlook on electronic music.
‘Semi-Circle’ and ‘What We Held Onto’ EPs were his first releases on Ghostly International back in 2010, which he has followed up with an impressive string of releases. After his debut album ‘Full Circle’, Shigeto had cemented his place within electronic music, getting tipped by some pretty big names including Radio 1 DJ, Benji B. The veritable workhorse has since released another two albums and a collection of EPs, singles and remixes.
► Making music while staying anonymous in the Internet age isn’t only difficult, it’s fun. SLOW MAGIC calls himself “an unknown imaginary friend” and doesn’t like to show his identity: recognised by only a handmade colourful mask, SLOW MAGIC is just that. Dreamy electronic pop made of airy synths and looping echoey vocals, mysterious in every way apart from the music.
► SHINAMO MOKI– Shinamo Moki are an electronic trio with roots in the South East, further east in Brighton and further still in Kyoto; they combine their passion of 90’s Anime, Japanese contemporary art, nature and Eastern architecture with sparse synths and splintering, textural percussions to form a core to their sound.
► BEWILDERBEAST is Suffolk born, Peckham resident, Gus BC. Bringing together hazy field recordings, DIY electronics, and bedroom tinkering, bewilderbeast produces blurred electronic pop, rooted in chillwave, but inflected with house and techno rhythms. For live shows, bewilderbeast is joined by brixton based video artist Niall Trask, creating a live audio/visual trip, loosely orbiting around his recorded material, but hewing closer to the underlying rhythmic heft of his left field pop. Over the last 2 years, Bewilderbeast has released one cassette (runn1ng), and one 12″ (Unreal_Estate) through Airlines Tapes and currently has a third LP (Still/Alive) tentatively slated for release this summer.
