Not wanting to be bound to one sound and experiment freely, music producer duo minds&machines were born out of a deep love for liberating electronic arrangements. The duo’s sound is constantly evolving, but they are mostly drawn to electronica. They are also known to dabble with garage, lo-fi and more ambient soundscapes. Exceeding our expectations, the duo have shared an electronic mix with us, fusing garage elements into this melting pot of carefully crafted and expressive sounds. The duo began making music together in 2015, and have seen much interest from other acts, sharing an official remix of Axwell & Ingrosso via Astralwerks as well as creating music via Solomun’s sub imprint 2Diy4.
Set the tone for us. Why the arts?
minds&machines is based on a long-term friendship and has taken shape while experimenting with new sounds in the studio. After several attempts, we came up with a sound that felt natural to us. After that, we have been working to carve out our very own niche.
Which comes first when you’re producing – the sound or the idea?
Depends on the mood and the track itself.
Does your material feature any collaborations?
So far we have focused on our very own sound but started collaborating with songwriters, musicians and designers.
What’s on your current playlist?
Really depends on the mood but we both enjoy music that speaks to the listener.
Tell us about the chemistry you have with your fans on stage.
So far we haven’t played too many gigs yet. Really looking forward to 2022 to hopefully change this.
What techniques do you experiment with to get your original sound?
We definitely involve a lot of sampling, especially lo-fi sources. Additionally, we experiment a lot with field recordings and ambiences. We also try to keep our mixes authentic and not too polished. Expressing something meaningful and interesting always comes first.
Take us through a day in the recording studio.
Most of our tracks are not created in a typical studio situation. We like to capture the vibe of a certain environment. That’s why the typical studio day doesn’t exist but we always try to capture the main idea in one session.
Was there a specific moment in your life where you thought, “this is what I want to do”?
No, but music has always been one of the most important things in our lives.

What gets your creative juices flowing?
Everything. It’s important to keep your eyes open.
Take us through your collection of gear, tech or software that accompanies your creative expression.
We use LogicX and a couple of different hardware and software synths. We try to dig deeper into guitar FX Pedals, modular synths as well as portable cassette players and tape machines.
Any side projects you’re working on?
Yes, minds&machines is our focus but we both have different solo projects ranging from cinematic scores to techno music.
How have you refined your craft since you entered the industry?
A lot of work and countless nights in the studio.
Breakdown the news for us: what can we expect from you this year?
We signed 2 EPs and a couple of singles and there is more stuff in the pipeline. Additionally, we are working on an NFT project as well as a photography exhibition.
