From gqom infected garage to PAC-MAN house collaborations, these are the releases that caught our attention this week. In no particular order:
Yaeji – PAC-TIVE
Yaeji’s latest effort sees the Korean-American Dj/producer team up with PAC-MAN to create the theme track for the iconic game’s new campaign. Featuring creative collective DiAN, the track metamorphoses PAC-MAN’s iconic 8-bit sounds into Yeaji’s trademark brand of chilled out house. Check out the music video directed by WEiRDCORE below:
Gaspard Augé – Hey!
Taken off his upcoming solo effort, Escapades (out June 25th via Genesis / Ed Banger Records / Because Music), Gaspard Augé’s rapid-fire new single Hey! serves touches of his work as one half of duo Justice while showcasing his particular point of view through slick live percussion against French electro-house. Pre-order the album here.
Burial & Blackdown – The Shock Power of Love (EP)
London producers Burial and Blackdown collaborate on an EP of poignantly emotive garage tracks, released via Keystone. Drawing from their UK roots, the duo contribute two tracks each, filled with looming trance synths and forlorn vocal bits. It’s available here. Check out Dark Gethsemane for a trip into Burial’s emotional cortex.
Tribal Brothers & DJ Polo – The Link Up (EP)
London duo Tribal Brothers team up with DJ Polo on a four track EP that sees the artists blend their UK funk groove with touches of gqom, none more so than on standout track The Problem. Drawing from a bevvy of their influences, including jungle and garage, the result is a beat driven offering with a distinctly global sound. The EP is released via Livity Sound and is available here. Preview it below:
Interplanetary Criminal – In My Arms (EP)
Genre-fluid producer Interplanetary Criminal releases an EP of rave infused garage tracks. Full of breakbeats and low rumbling bass, it’s a bouncy journey through the soundscape of the UK underground. Let Loose is a standout, and the EP features a drum & bass remix of the title track from Coco Bryce. Download In My Arms, released through Time is Now, here.
